Simmental cross cattle dominated the Beef Spectacular Feedback Trial taking out the Champion and Reserve Champion pen of steers.
A total of 76 pens of five cattle were entered in the competition and fed for just over 100 days at the Jindalee feedlot before being slaughtered at Teys Australia plant at Wagga Wagga. The overall champions are decided by a combination of feedlot performance, hospital meeting carcase specifications and and carcase quality.
The Grand Champion Pen of five Simmental X Angus steers were enterd by Rob & Kelly Lamoureux, story from Armidale, NSW with a total score of 852 points
Rob & Kelly Lamoureux, also entered the Reserve Champion Pen of 5 Steers of the same breeding with a score of 841 points well clear of the third placed pen with 823 points.
This is the second successive year that Simmental X Angus steers have been the Champion pen
with steers entered by James and Sally Morse taking out the award in 2015
Reserve Champion pen in the Riverine Classic Beef class were Simmental X Angus/Shorthorn owned by Terry Pierce & Kim McConville
In the Carcase section the second placed pen were Simmental X Angus/Shorthorn exhibited by Terry Pierce & Kim McConville and the third placed pen were again Simmental X Angus exhibited by Rob & Kelly Lamoureux.
The Grand Champion and Reserve Champion pens in 2016 and the Grand Champion pen in 2015 were sired by Wombramurra Black Simmental bulls.
