  • 86pc clearance

A solid panel of repeat buyers, backed up by a Simbrah win for the third year in a row at the Clermont Beef Expo, saw a satisfying result for Scott, Claire and Wayne York at the Billa Park bull sale at the Clermont Saleyards on Thursday.

It was the fifth sale at the Central Highlands venue for the Jackson-based stud, and Scott York said it had been outstanding, considering the season and what buyers were still going through.

They bought 26 of the 30 bulls offered through the auction arena and the full catalogue was signed up by the end of the day.

Burnett Enterprises, Clermont and Springsure, purchased the top priced bull, Billa Park M191, for $13,000.

The poll bull, by base sire E1043 and out of a purebred cow, carried his 1010kg into the ring well, where potential purchasers could admire his eye muscle area of 148cm sq, and rump and rib fat measurements of 12 and 8mm.

Doug Burnett said his tremendous weight for age, high EMA for a young bull, evenness of fat cover, and length, had appealed to his family.

“We normally run a three-way crossing program, where our Simmental sires are put with our high content Brahman cows, but we may withhold this one and use him to breed Simmental cross bulls,” he said.

The enterprise finished the sale with five bulls, most of which will go the breeding property west of Springsure.

Also purchasing five bulls were AL and DC Rolfe, Springsure, while VJ and JA Appleton, Emerald, secured four bulls.

BJ and CM Anderson outlaid the second top price, $11,000, for Billa Park M122, also sired by Billa Park base sire E1043 out of a Billa Park purebred cow.

Stepping into the ring at 23 months with a weight of 868kg, he had an EMA of 146cm sq.

Beef Expo championship winners, Frank and Scott Finger, Hillview Cattle Co, selected two bulls, for $8000 and $7000.
