49th AGM of Simmental AustraliaThe 49th Annual General Meeting was held last Thursday, the 16th of May, 2019 in Gympie Qld.

Very pleasing to see a terrific attendance to the AGM and some great ideas come out of the Member’s Forum after the formalities.
Right: Rob and Viv Laycock, Clay Gully Simmentals, receiving and appreciation award from Simmental Australia for opening their stud for our AGM tour.
There were two ballots put forward for this AGM with the results as follows:

Victoria had two representatives put forward for the Federal position in that state being Heather du Vallon and Peter Wenn. The vote went to Peter Wenn.

Queensland branch put forward a special motion for a second councillor with the vote having the majority FOR the motion, but with the motion needing 75% of the vote, was therefore unsuccessful.

After the AGM the Board met to allocate positions, with the new roles as follows:

President – Stuart Moeck

Senior Vice President: Scott York

Junior Vice President: John Hopkins

Treasurer: Peter Wenn

Marketing and Media: G Gillett and M Frankcombe

Technical: S Moeck, G Gillett with members P Cowcher, N Hopkins and M Rowlands.

WSFF representative: P Wenn.

We thank all the members who took the time to open their studs for the tours, the exhibitors of the Feature Show and those who came along to the AGM.
Also a huge thank you to outgoing-President, Tom Baker for his contribution to the breed in this position. Tom is now taking a break from the Executive but is still on the Board representing South Australia.

All the photos from the Stud Tours and the Gympie Show can be found here.

Member’s Forum outcome
The Member’s Forum followed the AGM and the following changes have been made:
* The Bylaws and Fee Schedule is now on the website under the Member Services menu.
* The Articles of Association are there as well.
* The Breed Improvement Fee, invoiced with membership, will be renamed Breed Promotion Fee, to alleviate confusion with a Breedplan membership. This fee allows us to promote a substantial win at the Royals, Beef or carcase competitions at short notice for greater impact.
* Following a letter to the Board requesting a revisit of fees charged to members, considered in the meeting prior to the AGM, the Board announced to the Forum that transfer fees would be reduced by 50% to $33 inc GST from the 1st of June.Spring Inventory  and Calf Recording S1 Forms
This year your Spring Inventory and S1 forms will be sent as a PDF to your member login in the Download files section for you to print if necessary. If you don’t have a member login then you will still receive the hard copy by post. Spring Inventory forms are due back at the office by the 30th of June.DNA Testing Subsidies
ASBA will be continuing to subsidise Low Density testing in 2019 where herds have submitted three traits for Breedplan in 2018. They will receive a 50% discount on the LD test itself in 2019, on a pro-rata basis. Please contact your Federal rep or EO for more information.

REMINDER: No Q calves can be registered without the sire being LD/50K tested. Please call the office to check or check for his status on Animal Enquiry (see below)
