Members may already be aware of the Canadian Western Agribition (CWA) show held annually in Regina, Saskatchewan. Agribition is the largest livestock show in Canada, and known as the best beef show in North America. As well as beef cattle, Agribition features horses, bison, sheep, goats, an extensive agribusiness trade show and Pro Rodeo entertainment. The show dates for 2019 are 25th to 30th November.

Agribition receives over 1,200 international guests from over 86 countries, promoting the sale of animals and world class beef genetics to both Canadian and international customers. The Canadian cattle industry maintains an ongoing effort to enhance beef quality through breed selection and genetic improvement programs. Demand for Canadian livestock genetics is high around the world – Canada’s exports of bovine semen in 2018 were worth over $120 million, compared to Australian exports of an estimated $3.7 million.

Canada is keen to promote attendance of Australian livestock companies at Agribition.  The Incoming Buyers Program is again on offer, which includes 50% of travel expenses up to C$1,500 for eligible participants. Also available is the International Guest Program featuring:

Complimentary show pass
Complimentary passes for the International Business Centre & The Gateway
Complimentary airport pick-up and courtesy transport service from hotels to the park (subject to volunteer driver availability)
Complimentary ticket to the International Reception – a world class event featuring Saskatchewan produce and cuisine

The International Program Brochure has more details and the Agribition website has information on planning your trip to Regina.

The Canadian Western Agribition International Program Facebook page is another means to stay informed of schedule changes, farm tour information and show updates. You can contact the show organisers directly at cwa.international@agribition.com.

Cattle Brands
Our herdbook program now has the ability to store your cattle brand for identification purposes at shows and sales. Our Bylaws state that an animal can be tattooed or branded but we haven’t held the brand information on file previously. Please email us a photo of your brand in a jpeg format along with the description.

DNA Testing Subsidies
ASBA will be continuing to subsidise Low Density testing in 2019 where herds have submitted three traits for Breedplan in 2018. They will receive a 50% discount on the LD test itself in 2019, on a pro-rata basis. Please contact your Federal rep or EO for more information.

No Q calves can be registered without the sire being LD/50K tested. Please call the office to check for his status on Animal Enquiry (see below)

Sale Promotion Emails
Would you like us to promote your sale to all the membership via this service? We can produce an e-news advertisement with links to your website, PDF catalogue and Facebook pages all for 25c per email. We can then provide you with statistics of email opens and links clicked. Please contact us at the office for more information.
