Vale Alec McDonald, Coolabar Park Simmentals

Alec McDonald with Coolabar Park Radar

Alec MacDonald, renowned Victorian Simmental breeder for 30 years, passed away on Wednesday, 27th March 2020, at home.

This is a photo of Alec with his prized bull Coolabar Park Radar.  The bull was sired by Siegfried (Sultan II) out of Coonawarra J008 a Hogo daughter.  Frame 7.5, dark red extremely correct bull. Radar was the most impressive bull bred by Alec, he was an embryo calf.

The combination of Siegfried to Coonawarra J008 was a brilliant mix with several of the other embryos breeding true.  The body and muscle was evident on Radar and for the breeders lucky enough to have a few AI straws of Radar, expect great general appearance, body capacity, longevity and style from a fullblood bull of excellence.

Alec broke Radar in for the Branch Show one year.  He sold to near $18,000 and went to a Mr Mekken in Gippsland.

Alec understood nature, he understood animals, in particular Simmental cattle and had an eye for quality stock.  He had the wisdom of a farmer.

At Alec’s funeral, they had a photo of Alec wearing the Simmental cap that he loved and always wore.  Glenys his wife cared for Alec the last 12 months, he will be cremated and will remain on his farm.
